Houston, we have a problem.

I have been formally asked to cease and desist all New Order / Joy Division activity, regardless of material and sourcing.  It was mentioned to me that the label has been focusing on me/the blog(s) as well.  Therefore, for my own protection and sanity, it's time to take a timeout and reconsider this blog (and I'm no longer going to be posting on The New Order Archives).

Maybe I'll start a blog about kittens.

Sorry to hear that, you've done some amazing work with this.

  2. You've done excellent work. Hopefully someone sees the value of that and you are hired, not sought after.

Maybe it's time to pull out some 78s and work with those. How do you feel about 20s jazz?

  3. This wouldn't have happened if Factory was still about.... it's not like they're ever going to make this stuff commercially available.... hope you don't give up on the blog- there's enough bloody cats online already!

  5. Commiserations, to you and to all of us. The work you've done is magnificent and they know it. They can't be bothered to do it themselves and they won't pay you for your efforts, so the most important thing is to make sure that people aren't getting something for nothing. Their decision is a shameful betrayal of Factory's original ethos.

  6. Like the others have said, you've done some amazing work for all of us that love JD & NO, and I'm really sorry to hear that it's going to cease. Please don't give up, there must be another way...

  8. very very sad day indeed. thanks again for all your hard work!

  9. It' not a surprise of course and the last thing I want is that you get into some kind of trouble because of the great job you did for us, the fans, and for them, the group. I hope that the wild bunch (Sumner, Morris, Gilbert and Hooky) see that (and feel that way!). So long my friend.

  10. Greatly appreciate all your work. You really made a difference. Thanks again for all your JD/NO work to date. I look forward to seeing future postings on other bands.

  11. Thanks for all you've done. I know I am not alone in thinking you have provided incredible sound files to a host of fans who otherwise would be stuck with mush.
Best to you and yours and keep us posted about your future endeavors!

  12. I want to join in and say, 'Thanks.' I'll miss your work, as I value it quite highly. If you tinker about on a smaller level, would you let us know somehow?

  13. Loads of thanx for for all the amazing work and efforts you've put into this for all us dedicated JD/NO fans. Your decision is very understandable.
I'm sure most of us throughout the years have provided hundreds of £/$ etc. into these greedy corporate idiots' pockets.
Hope the artists themselves can stop these greedy bastards, so we sometime/somewhere can take part of your skills again!

  14. I have to say I REALLY REALLY liked every single one of your posts and your contributions to JD/NO music collections will be greatly missed. Thank you for all the work done. You're a star!

  15. I always enjoyed all your remastering work, since it sounded so much better than what I had on CD/LP. Your posts will be definitely missed. You are a star!

Know when to walk away and know when to run.

  17. Thanks for all your efforts over the years, and maybe someday we'll see you return....

This new blog, must be about Stiff Kittens, not?

  18. You know, I'm very much against piracy. I work for a porn company and we're all but going out of business because of it. But having said that, I see absolutely nothing wrong with sharing out of print material. How are we supposed to get it? I've got hundreds of 12" remixes and old out of print albums that are just sitting around. My turntable doesn't even work anymore and I've never been able to do a decent job of ripping them for the iPod I so dearly love. I own the damn records and yet I can't even listen to them. Your blog has enabled me to finally, after many year, be able to listen to songs that used to fill my precious mix tapes. And get to hear songs I wish I had bought when I had the chance and have no hope for ever being able to purchase. Frankly, if I was an artist I would hope my out of print records and concert bootlegs were out there making people happy. I doubt anyone who's downloaded any of the material from your blog would hesitate to buy any of these links if a good CD well remastered downloadable track was made available. Don't let these guys get you down. Get rid of their stuff and keep up the good work with all your other stuff.

  19. Many years ago (two thirds of a lifetime ago) I saw JD supporting the Buzzcocks at the great, late, long-departed Glasgow Apollo. It was late (November?) 1979. Me and my pal (now dead) arrived from the nearby Horseshoe Bar after JD had started their set. I was bowled over by one of the songs (NDF) and decided that the rest of the set sucked bigstyle. Their overall stage sound was not good that night. I already owned the Transmission single but didn't rate the other song I'd heard (ie. Novelty). The Buzzcocks came on and were brilliant. On the basis of hearing NDF at the Apollo I bought UP the next week.
It is only through work of TPoIT that I have been able to hear JD live properly from back then. Part of the myth making of JD has been the bootlegs and of a stunningly shabby quality most were (I bought two back in the day and then gave up).
I'm sorry this C&D has been slapped on you. You deserve so much better. Factory would never have done this to you. They would have given you a job, got ready for the release and then some guy would have taken two years to get the artwork together.
You have generated such interest in the band and the sonic rescuing of their catalogue has been a sterling piece of work.

  20. Ach. Chin up. I always enjoy seeing your JD/NO archive stuff.

The DMCA have hit my blog hard too. They seem to be able to go into Mediafire and just remove any files they don't like, including personal stuff that I'd shared with relatives in Australia. It's almost enough to stop you blogging.

  21. very sad indeed
consider posting on external servers hosted by more 'friendly' countries, like http://avaxhome.ws/music
    or even http://www.israbox.com/flac/
(these just for examples, but many others)

You'll post want you want, safe from music industry, as you would behind a proxy.
Anyway, thanx for the great work you did here, you'll be missed
    Cheers

  22. I blame pitchfork for all the notice and traffic as of late.

  23. Or you could go private...kinda sucks but I've seen many a blog do this when they get attacked.

I agree with one comment here that they should hire you not come after you like this.

If it wasn't for a blog such as this most of the works posted and cared for here would most likely disappear into the dusty record bins of history...

  24. Isn't it wonderful that we live in a world where certain corporate interests get to make it up as they go along?

  25. I look forward to all the Stiff Kittens posts ;)

  26. I bought everything NO and JD put out until Total, most stuff in more than one format. I loved what you posted b/c I loved the bands and it brought a lot of joy to my life to hear the bootlegs, outtakes, alternate versions, cleaned up versions. I didn't buy less, or not buy or cheat the band of money in anyway - I just was a big fan. Thanks a lot for all your effort.

  27. Hear, hear. Without the cleaned up bootlegs, outtakes, etc. some people would lose interest in NO/JD - it's posts like yours that keep the fires burning when the official releases often amount to nothing more than hideous remasters or rehashed best-ofs. You should be paid not chastised.

  28. Firstly, Thanks so much for all your hard work on this and the Smiths and JD/NO blogs. I do feel fortunate to have turned up when it was available. With the exception of the Warsaw remaster which I lost in a recent HW failure, I was lucky enough to get it all.

Shame we cannot do something to hit Greyzone where it hurts, but information on them as an entity is pretty barren. But I'd expect a neo-nazi group, operating with the consent of the labels, to keep a very low profile. Heck they have a PO box for an address in Brooklyn. Shame with the upturn in the quality of that borough, that they still allow the riff raff to have residence there.

Anyway, chin up mate, you have done more than your fair share to keep some of the most prized music produced available to the community. We all owe you and 50p a huge round of appreciation for your efforts.

Take a break....there is that legendary catalog of Toni Basil music you could turn your attention to! :-)

Think I'll fire up the Thorens TT and slap on Power, Corruption and Lies in your honor. Seems a fitting choice. Thanks again mate!
